Fine Art Wedding Seminar @ Annabel Williams Studio

These images are from last weeks seminar we hosted at CPT, The Annabel Williams Studio. It was a very interesting day which started with waking up to thick cloud and very heavy rain which wasn't a good start! When I arrived at the studio I was told that two delegates couldn't make it due to an accident blocking their route - also the models we had lined up couldn't make it due to illness - not a good start!

Luckily the gorgeous Rachel was on hand to step in and wear a stunning wedding dress and we also organized a groom at the last minute so everything went smoothly in the end! Even though it was quite cloudy and grey we still managed to find some fantastic light both indoors and out.

This seminar was a first and was a great success, with some very positive feedback so we hope to run it again in 2010.

Queensberry Album feature

We were delighted to have our latest album published on the Queensberry album blog. We were thrilled when the album arrived from New Zealand but to our surprise we were so happy to get an email a few days later from Nigel saying they loved the album and took some pictures so they could feature it on their blog. Cooper Photography November Workshop

We are excited to announce a new training day on Thursday 19th November.

This is a one day workshop to be hosted here in Hampshire, where Anna and Stuart Cooper will take you through their approach in creating stunning images from a wedding day. The course will be focusing on:

Working efficiently on a wedding day to produce consistent results.
Using available light for dynamic portraits.
Speed posing and maximizing time with the bride & groom
Creative on-camera flash
Shooting for the album
Digital workflow using Adobe Lightroom
Bringing your images to life using Photoshop (including Actions)

The workshop will involve Photography in the morning and digital editing in the afternoon with lunch provided. All images that you capture or yours to use as you wish in your marketing material.

Fay & Chris Wedding

We had a great time at Fay & Chris's Wedding. They had the whole wedding at the Tithe Barn which is always a great venue to work at. With the weather on our side - a lovely relaxed atmosphere, and a fantastic looking bridal party there was no way we couldn't get fantastic images! Chris had three best men so as you can imagine the speeches were hysterical. They had tales from school, from the stag do and some pretty embarrassing large posters!

We're still playing catch up but I'm determined to get all the weddings blogged! It's been a while since we shot Laura & Dean's wedding but I'm so pleased to post these images. Laura & Dean got married at Rhinefield house which is definitely one of our top wedding venues, and this wedding was definitely one of our fav's. This wedding was made even more special as Dean is a good photographer himself (no pressure then!) actually there were camera's everywhere at this wedding! There was a really great buzz at this wedding and it was a pleasure to be a part of it.

Michelle & Richard Wedding

It's been a while with blog posts, always the same this time of year! This was a beautiful wedding that we shot earlier in the summer. Michelle & Richard got married at the Holy Trinity Church in Wickham in Hampshire. This was a very special wedding as Michelle is the sister of a good photographer friend of mine Dan Reid so it was great to see him and all their family. It was a beautiful day and made even more special by the news we heard that Michelle is pregnant! They held their reception at Michelle's parents house Charles Roy Farm. They had a marquee set up in the woods on their parents land and was like a tucked away haven in the woods.

Digital Wedding Seminar @ the new CPT

I couldn't wait to do this blog post as I had such a great time last week at the NEW Annabel Williams Studio! I was fortunate enough to be the first trainer to host a seminar there (I felt honoured!) also my very good friend Stew Randall was the last person to host a seminar at the old studio which was cool! I always liked the old studio and I shall miss it's charm, but the new one is unbelievable! It's on three floors with glass all around so the natural light pouring in is beautiful, also there is a roof terrace which again is amazing for photography. All together its a much more slicker building to be in. The seminar I host is called the digital wedding, and day one is all about developing a style of photography that will wow your clients whilst putting tools in place to work efficiently under the pressures of a wedding day, then day two is all about digital workflow and making your images come alive in post production. I had such an amazing time at this seminar as the sun was shining (always good!) and our models, Kate & Charlie were amazing! At times they held some pretty uncomfortable poses for some time so everyone could get a great shot! Also we had a great group of delegates that were from all different levels in their photography and their businesses. Below are some of my favourite images from the day and also there are a few images (the ones of me) from Andy Holdsworth who recently won the amateur category in the Annabel Williams awards. It was a fantastic couple of days and it's always great seeing all the girls up north! I look forward to our next seminar 'Fine Art Weddings' in December.

Pauline & Matt Wedding

We were so lucky to photograph this wedding for several reasons -

1: Pauline & Matt are great people with lovely family & friends. Were made to feel very welcome the whole day.

2: They had their reception at Hassop Hall which is a stunning venue for photography.

3: The weather was on our side as the rest of the country was drowning in rain!

Pauline & Matt are both living in Tokyo so they flew in about a week before and then started putting all the finishing touches on the day and I must say it flowed perfectly - apart from the Ceilidh dancing which I wouldn't say exactly flowed, but was a huge amount of fun!

Rebekah & Sion

Rebekah & Sion are a great couple to photograph. We headed out with Milo (the dog) to a place called 'No Man's Land' where they regularly walk Milo. It absolutely poured down with rain on the way there and Sion pulled over the car to see if we wanted to cancel! We took the gamble and carried on and I'm so pleased that we did. The rain stopped and we had we had some beautiful evening light. This was a great session but my favourite shot was at the end of the shoot when it started raining again but they didn't care and carried on kissing, if you click on the image it'll open up large - it's worth having a look full size, I think this is one of the most romantic pictures we've taken!

Still trying to catch up with last years weddings, I'm determined to get them all on the blog! This was a great wedding that we shot for Katherine & Matt. We've photographed many weddings at New Place in Hampshire but this was the first one we've shot where they had the service in the hotel, and I must say it was lovely. New Place is a great setting and everybody had such a great time. Katherine and Matt are a great couple who were great in front of the camera - especially Katherine.

This is another wedding from last year so still playing catch up but we had a wonderful time on this special day a: because the wedding was at Berrydown Barn which is where Anna and I got married and b: because Debbie and Neil are two of the nicest people you're ever going to meet. Ok, we've been a bit slow with the blog again and whilst we still have loads of weddings portraits and general stuff to blog I just couldn't resist getting this wedding on the blog asap! We shot Tracy & Christian's wedding a few weeks ago and it really was something special. They got married at the Theatre Royal in Winchester with the actual ceremony taking place on the stage. They designed the stage set themselves and they made a wedding film to show at the start of the ceremony. Everything had a theatre theme with an interval in between the service and speeches - they even had the invitations printed onto theatre tickets! We've photographed all different kinds of weddings but this was truly unique and an absolute joy to be a part of. We started the year with Jen & Andy's pre wedding shoot and we started the summer season with their wedding, I must say we couldn't have asked for a better wedding to start the 2009 season. All of their friends and family were great but most of all Jen & Andy were so fantastic to photograph. They had their wedding at Highcliffe Castle in Dorset which is a beautiful setting and we had the most wonderful afternoon light. They laughed and cried their way through the service and the shots we did on the beach were so much fun!

This was a recent pre wedding shoot we did for a great couple called Tracy & Christian. Their wedding is in april and they are getting married at the Winchester Royal Theatre - actually on the stage! It's going to be an amazing wedding with lots of interesting details. I especially like the theatre ticket invites - nice touch!

Christian is a business improvement consultant and his company is Succinct Solutions. We are currently using his services ourselves so not only are we enjoying photographing their wedding but we're also getting some valuable feedback on our customer service (scary!) We'll keep you posted on the good stuff!!

Jenny and Andy Pre-Wedding shoot

We just shot Jenny and Andy's wedding on Saturday and it was fantastic - I thought I'd better blog their pre wedding photos as I can't wait to blog their wedding pictures soon.

We met up at the start of the year and went for brisk cold walk with their beautiful dog Tarla. If they were allowed I think Tarla would've definitely been a guest at the wedding so it was great to get some pictures of her as well. as you can see these two are fab to photograph so you can imagine how great their wedding pictures are! Ok so we're going back in time for this one but this was a very special wedding as I shot this with our good friend Jo Pearce, the reason being that Anna was one of Katherine's bridesmaids. It was a beautiful day in June last year where they got married at St Josephs Church in Southampton and then had their reception on the Princess Caroline . The weather was great and it was a great laugh from start to finish especially the speeches, although they went on far longer than normal! The Citreon DS was supplied and driven by one of Dan's brothers Joe and it certainly made for some stylish images.

These two were made for each other and I know they'll have a wonderful life together!

Yesterday our studio manager Rebecca did a very brave thing - she had her head shaved for Comic Relief! Naturally we went along to take some photo's and to take the mickey! She managed to raise over £800 so we're very proud of her, we just won't be letting her see any clients for a few weeks!

Yesterday I paid a visit to my good friends Charlie & Sarah at Sarah's studio in Haywards Heath. We had some lunch and talked shop for most of the day but in the afternoon I did some promo shots they could use for their websites - either that or Christmas presents for their Mum's! You've heard the saying that doctors make the worst patients well the same could be said of photographers! After they had stopped telling me what to do we did manage to get some great shots!

Unfortunately due to our lack of keeping up to date with our blog posts things have become a little bit out of sync which is why I'm posting Elaine & Chris's Pre wedding shoot after their actual wedding photos were posted! Never mind, I could've left this post out but I loved their images so much I just had to put them on there. We did the shoot in December and it was a lovely crisp December morning. Winter shoots are always good fun because people tend to get more cosy when their trying to keep warm. The result - more romantic pictures, it especially works well when you get gorgeous light like that we had on that day.

One of the first weddings I ever did was for some good friends of ours Mike & Emily, about 7 years ago, well this time it was the turn of Mike's little sister Helen. She married Tim at St James Church in Shirley, Southampton which is the church that they both attend so this wedding had a real sense of community, and you could feel that everybody was so happy for them. Tim is a wedding photographer himself, his company is called Plinkk Photography so it was a real honor to be chosen to photograph their special day. I've photographed Helen many times before - she was a bridesmaid at Mike & Emily's wedding and she has been roped into doing some modeling for Emily's various schemes and projects but this was definitely the best time that we've photographed her.

We had a great time at Haenni & Joe's wedding. They went for a very personal wedding by having a lovely service at Highcliffe castle and then a meal at Sopley Mill but they had the reception at a marquee in Joe's Nan's Garden which made it very special. The big contender on the day was the rain! It truly poured down which unfortunately put a stop to our plans of photos on the beach but didn't stop us having a great time and getting some lovely photos of everyone.

Out in the snow

As with most of the country, last week was a bit of a write off. We had several meetings and photo shoots that were put on hold as the whole of the UK grind to a halt because of a little bit of snow! Will we ever learn!

It's been a while since we last posted anything so I'm thrilled to be back here on the blog. 2008 was a great, if not frantic year but we did have some wonderful assignments in wedding and portrait sessions, also some very interesting commercial shoots and personal assignments also, more if this to come in the next few weeks but I would like to start with our first wedding of 2009 which was for Elaine and Chris Spellerberg. This was extra special for us as they had their wedding at the Berrydown Barn near Winchester which is where Anna and I had our own wedding reception. It's a beautiful setting and it was so nice to be working there again. The day was also made extra special again as Elaine and her family are old friends of Anna's so they made us feel very welcome from start to finish. You couldn't have asked for better weather as it was chilly but still very bright and sunny and we were blessed with the most fantastic late afternoon winter light. Lucky for us Elaine and Chris were happy to be outside in the cold where we got some very romantic shots of the two of two of them.

We had a great time on the day and Anna was thrilled to see some old faces again. Best wishes fro the future guys. Stu & Anna

AT the beginning of the year I vowed to keep the blog posts frequent and have lots of exciting new images on here - as you can see from the last post dated July, that hasn't happened! We've had a manic year so far, although I'm not complaining - it's always great to be busy! Obviously one of the first things to suffer is the blog. Cynthia & Will are two of the nicest people we've had the good fortune to photograph. We had a wonderful time photographing their wedding at Rhinefield House. They currently live in Singapore and had a ceremony there and then one here. We were dodging the rain all day but luckily we had the sun in all the right places! The day flowed beautifully and then finished with a stunning firework display in the evening.

This wedding as extra special as it was for our good friends Jo & Chris. It's all ways a great privilege to photograph any wedding but when it's close friends it makes it that bit more special. They got married at All Saints Church in Hursely, Hampshire with their reception at Chilworth Manor. It was such a beautiful day and we got some amazing shots by the beautiful cherry blossom at Chilworth. I got great shot of the rings hanging from the little dagger on Chris's kilt, to get this image it involved me laying on the floor to which I heard snigger's from all the ushers as it appeared I was shooting up his kilt! Fortunately neither of us embarrass easily!

We had a fantastic day and we know that Jo & Chris have got a great life ahead of them.

Sarah & Peters wedding was at one of our favorites Rhinefield house it was a bit of a rainy day but that didn't stop everybody having lots of fun! These shots were from a pre wedding shoot we did a few weeks ago for Laura & Dean. We drove up to Epsom in Surrey and this location was just near their house. We had some good fun (at least I think they did) on the shoot and I know we will get some fantastic images at their wedding which will be at Rhinefield House. Dean is a keen photographer himself so it's always an honour to be booked by people that have a love of photography!

This was a great shoot we did of Darren & Paula and their gorgeous Children Polly & Rufus. We had some fun down by the river feeding the swans and then back to the house for some great shots of them playing in their rooms. They are a couple of great kids who were a lot of fun and were smiling the whole time.

Tamron Lens Test

I was recently asked to test a lens for Digital Photo Pro magazine. The lens I was given was a Tamron AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di VC. This was such a cool project to be asked to do. After doing the Birdpen shoot in the New Forest I decided to get up early for another dawn shoot. It was another crisp winter morning and the light was amazing! The lens was great to use but I won't go on about it here as it all be in the next edition of the magazine!

Birdpen 2nd shoot

This was the second shoot that we did for the group Birdpen. This was such a cool shoot to do, we set off at 6am to catch the the sunrise in the New Forest. I wanted it to have a contrast to the urban location we used for the first shoot. They look pretty cool as a band and the light on that morning was amazing although it was absolutely freezing - still that's the price you have to pay for great light!

I've mentioned before that these images are for their forthcoming album, well the album case is going to have a booklet containing lyrics, some of our images, and a stack of artwork specially commissioned by a very talented artist called Jo Negus. It's going to be pretty special!

Cynthia & Will - Pre Wedding Shoot

We met Cynthia & Will at The Four Seasons in Canary Wharf to do their Pre Wedding Shoot. They currently live in Singapore and we're visiting for work so it was great to catch them in their busy schedules. It was a bit of windy day but lovely and bright so we were able to get some great shots of the two of them. They're getting married twice this year - once in Singapore and then followed by a ceremony at Rhinefield House, unfortunately we are not photographing the Singapore ceremony but we know we're going to have a fantastic time at their wedding in England!

Kathryn & Craig

This was one of our favourite Christmas weddings, Kat & Craig were married at St Steven's Church in Sparsholt with their reception at Lainston House. It was such a beautiful day with fantastic winter light. Kathryn absolutely loves Christmas so we made sure we captured all we could to show how festive it was including going outside at night to get some great shots of them by the big Christmas tree they have at Lainston. They also organised a big wedding party unison cracker pull! What made this wedding extra special for me was that Craig & Kat are both big Star Wars fans - as am I! We did a lightsabre cake cutting shot and all the table names where characters from the films, I thought a nice touch would also be the Darth Tater rings shot! Anna, Nate and me went away over New Year and upon our return we had a replica lightsabre waiting for us (well me!) as a thank you gift - it doesn't get any better than that!

Kat & Craig are great together and we know they will be happy for a very long time. All the best for your life together, Stu & Anna

Carly & Simon

We had a great time photographing Carly and Simon's wedding as they had put so much thought into the details and what they wanted, also it was such a beautiful location that we couldn't help but be so inspired! They had their wedding at Romsey Abbey and then their reception was at Broadlands - both are stunning venues and an absolute joy to photograph weddings at, especially with Carly & Simon as they are both so great together. We just let them act natural together and we just shot away! When we got to Broadlands there was such a relaxed atmosphere and I believe the party went on well into the early hours!

Birdpen promo shots

I recently did some promo shots for indie band Birdpen. They have their debut album 'ON/Off Safety Danger' scheduled for release this year, which, I have a copy of and is absolutely amazing! This is part 1 of the shoot which we did in Southampton and we also did a shoot early one morning in the New Forest - I'll be posting them very soon. What we wanted to achive from the shoot was something that had style and reflected their music but that didn't look too contrived! Hopefully we acheived that. Birdpen are quite a visual band so we wanted something natural but still quite creative. Can't wait for the album release and I know these images will look amazing in the album artwork.

Liz, James and baby Neo

This was a great shoot that we did for Liz & James of their georgous little boy called Neo. He was definitely a natural in front of the camera and didn't cry once! It was a bit of a cold, dull winters day but it was great to be indoors in the warm and using a nice big window to get some beautiful soft light.

I look forward to photographing Neo as he gets older - I'm sure he's going to be a very photogenic boy.

This was definitely one our best weddings of 2007. Anna and I were already friends with Mary from years ago so it was great to catch up again and also it was an honour to photograph her wedding to Ben. They really are two wonderful people and that made their wedding so special. There were plenty of laughs that day and also plenty of tears - and a Bentley Continental GT! This was our second wedding at the Tithe Barn in Petersfield and it's always a great venue to work especially when you have a great couple like Mary & Ben. These two were definitely made for each other and I know they'll always make each other very happy.

This was a fantastic wedding that we shot just outside of Hull. Jon is an amateur film maker (professional doctor) and for their wedding invitations they made a short film about how they met and how Jon asked Kate's parents for permission etc, It was cross between a comedy and a documentary and it was completely original! The great thing is that they are very creative people and it was an honour to be chosen as their photographers. They were married at St Mary's Church in Burgate, Barton on Humber and then had the reception at Kate's parents house which with the marquee in the garden, looked stunning. We had a wonderful time at their wedding and two best men's speeches were great!

The Complete Wedding Seminar

It's been a pretty poor year for keeping the blog up to date so one of my 08 resolutions is to keep on top of the posts, starting with some images from a seminar we hosted up at the Annabel Williams Studio in November. It was a miserable day but hopefully that made the seminar a bit more useful. We had some really great people there including one guy (Stefan) who came all the way from Belgium. Special thanks to Kirsty & Phil who were really great models and bravely suffered the weather for us to get some great images. The whole day was a great success and we look forward to our next seminar in June which should be a little warmer!

I'm going to try and pack in our favourite weddings of 2007 in the next few weeks and then we'll be right up to date, with some exciting new images to come.

We photographed Nadine & Stef's wedding in July 2005 and they're wedding is one of our all time favourites! We had a fantastic time and they were an absolute joy to photograph, naturally we were thrilled when Nadine called to say, a: she was pregnant and b: she wanted us to capture some maternity photos. As per their wedding day these guys were so easy to photograph and look very natural together. Nadine is a very beautiful girl and she was truly glowing that day! Since the shoot the have had little baby Luka and we very much look forward to photographing the three of them!
